Our Case Study: Water Security in Drought-Prone Zambia
The southwestern region of Zambia experiences extreme drought conditions with annual rainfall between 650-800mm and highly unpredictable distribution. Traditional rain-fed agriculture is unreliable, and surface water distribution is economically unfeasible across the province.
Groundwater is the only reliable, safe water source available year-round. Our solution focuses on sustainable borehole installations with hand-pumps and community-managed systems. Boreholes at 50-70 meter depths provide water naturally protected from evaporation and contamination, often requiring no treatment.
This approach has delivered results: improved water security, reduced waterborne disease, increased agricultural productivity, and strengthened community resilience to climate shocks. Our model demonstrates how appropriate technology combined with community engagement creates lasting solutions.
